'What our couples think'

Here's what our customers had to say...

Chris & Ciara: June 2010
Catholic ceremony Santa Caterina church, Taormina followed by dancing at The Lemon Tree

“The Lemon Tree is the perfect accommodation!  We went to Sicily to get married as part of a large family group - there were babies, children, and older people in our party and everyone had a ball.

The apartments were modern, clean and had all mod cons, the block was secure and safe which allowed the children to play and enjoy themselves. With a nice sized pool and stunning views it was the perfect place for our wedding party to relax. Only 15 minutes from Taormina we were able to experience the best of both worlds - i.e. peacefulness away from it all and experience the beautiful towns in the surrounding areas.

The owners Karen & Diego were just fantastic - they done everything to ensure that we had a great time, we felt really at home here and would most definitely visit again.

We had our evening wedding reception at the Lemon Tree - and danced the night away around the olive tree on the terrace overlooking Taormina, Castelmola and the Ionian Sea - you really have to see it for yourself to understand.

We really loved our time in Sicily and have particularly great memories of our time spent with you guys. We loved every moment and can’t thank you enough.”

Highly recommended!! Chris & Ciara

Sandra & Steve Foster: August 2010
Civil ceremony at the Castle ruins, Castelmola followed by reception at The Lemon Tree, Taormina

“Karen & Diego did an outstanding job organising our daughter’s wedding.  As proud parents we would highly recommend their services to anyone thinking of getting married in Sicily.

Looking back we have some many special memories. Not just of the actual wedding day but also the two weeks we stayed at the Lemon Tree with its breath taking views.

Our wedding party consisted of forty two guests, arriving & departing constantly over a two week period. During this time Karen & Diego successfully organised transport, day trips, BBQ’s, buffets etc to a very high standard. This was only possible to Karen & Diego’s local knowledge, support and expertise. Couple this with their friendly personality makes them the best.

The actual wedding day was spectacular, the service took place on the terrace in Castelmola with drinks and canapés over looking Mount Etna. Followed by a fantastic wedding breakfast and evening reception back at the Lemon Tree.

Their attention to detail was first class ensuring things ran smoothly. They have the ability to deliver everything we asked...even fireworks!!  Importantly this was achieved in a cost effective manner with minimum time and effort from ourselves.

We have so much to thank Karen & Diego, for making Joanne’s wedding an amazing once in a life time experience. “

Sandra & Steve Foster

PS... Guests still talk about how good it was six months later!!

Neil & Joanne Worman: August 2010

“Where do I start with what Karen & Diego did? They could not do enough for us. They arranged the whole package, from sorting all the legal aspects of marrying in Sicily, to arranging caterers, photographer, hair stylists, make-up artisits, flowers, the reception, which was held in their lovely grounds overlooking the sea and Mount Etna . In fact every aspect of organising a big wedding was seemlessly organised by them both. What a truly magical setting is The Lemon Tree and also Castlemola, where the service was held. The wedding was all we could dream of and more thanks to Karen & Diego and if anyone is thinking of marrying somewhere beautiful with spectacular scenery, contact them!!

Thank you so much for everything” Sue & Colin Worman.

Neil & Susie Mullineaux: May 2011
Symbolic ceremony in the botanical gardens Taormina

“Just wanted to thank you again for everything you did last week, we had a fantastic day.  We know it was really short notice but you guys pulled off our wedding day to perfection.  Karen the photos have come out really good, we know you didn’t have to do that - people will think we paid a professional photographer, thanks.
Hope you both keep well and continue to enjoy those views.
Thank you”

Chris & Lucy James: August 2011
Civil ceremony at the Castle ruins, Castelmola followed by wedding reception at Villa Antonio, Taormina

“We first stayed at the Lemon Tree last year, just after we became engaged. Sicily truly is a beautiful island and Karen and Diego’s hospitality helped to make that first visit unforgettable. As they offer wedding planning services in addition to accommodation, we decided to put our wedding arrangements in their very capable hands and set a date to marry in Sicily this year on 1 August. We picked out the castle ruins in nearby Castelmola for the ceremony venue and Villa Antonio in Taormina for the reception, having already been shown around both venues by Karen and Diego before we returned home last year. Numerous venue options were presented, but the fabulous views/traditional feel of Castelmola and the romantic atmosphere and amazing food and service at Villa Antonio suited us perfectly. We also had post-ceremony/pre-reception drinks in the Piazza beneath the castle ruins in Castelmola, which was a great way for guests to explore the village a little and stretch their legs before heading to the reception.

My family and friends will all attest to the fact that I am easily one of the most demanding and pedantic customers you could ever meet, and we must have tried the patience of Karen and Diego on many occasions over the last year with never-ending emails, phone calls and requests! However, their calm professionalism, efficiency and local knowledge ensured that we had a wedding day to remember. Every little detail was taken care of and we had absolutely no stress on the day. In fact, the whole two weeks spent at the Lemon Tree was relatively stress-free, as Karen and Diego went out of their way to ensure we had nothing to worry about. For example, when our luggage failed to turn up at Catania airport on the outbound flight (resulting in one hysterical bride-to-be!), Diego had it traced and returned to us within a couple of hours. There were so many little touches that made the whole experience amazing - it’s impossible to list them all here but in a nutshell, if you are thinking of marrying abroad and Sicily appeals to you, then we can’t recommend the services of Karen and Diego enough. Sicily will always be a great, romantic place for weddings but without planners who know the area and the language and who care deeply about their reputation and their clients, you will struggle to create the perfect day. We did have the perfect day simply because Karen and Diego went to great lengths to get to know us and to understand what we wanted and then went above and beyond the call of duty in order to meet our very high expectations. They are incredibly hard-working, flexible and pragmatic and everything is done with a smile - who better to organise one of the most important days of your life?

Weddings aside, the accommodation itself cannot be faulted for its stunning location, five star service and exceptional value for money – family and friends staying at the Lemon Tree during the wedding period had nothing but praise for the place and we are very grateful to Karen and Diego for looking after all our guests so well.”  Lucy & Chris x

Erik and Karin: May 2012
Civil ceremony at the Palazzo Duchi Santo Stefano followed by symbolic ceremony and wedding reception at Belmond Hotel Villa S’ant Andrea, Taormina

“Having lived abroad for many years; we knew that our wedding would be a Destination Wedding with our closest friends and family around us. Sicily came in the picture, and while searching for the right accommodation, the Lemon Tree reached our search field. As all our searching had to be done through Internet, we decided to visit several locations before making a decision… And what an easy decision it was!! Karen & Diego invited us to experience the Lemon Tree, and familiarise us with the services they offer while planning our wedding; and from the moment they picked us up from the Train Station, we knew they were the right ‘team’ for us, to make our dream come through.

All our Friends & Family under 1 roof, everybody doing whatever they like with the great hospitality of Karen & Diego. We had lots of ‘finishing touches’ (flowers, exact location, menu confirmation, driving route) to do before the wedding day, and Karen & Diego arranged everything as smooth as possible.

And then finally, the big day arrived – 3rd of May 2012. As everything was organised so well, there were no nerves at all! Our day was perfect from beginning to end, a true fairytale! And till now when we show our pictures, the comments we receive ‘it’s like a movie, a fairy tale….’, and that’s how it still feels.

Thank you so much Karen & Diego!!”

Rich & Clare: June 2012
Catholic wedding ceremony at Chiesa Madonna della Rocca followed by evening reception at The Metropole Hote, Taormina.

“We recently got married in Taormina and stayed at The Lemon Tree with our friends. It was ideal as the apartments are well furnished with fantastic views of the town and Mt Etna. All the apartments had either a terrace or a balcony which were great for relaxing with our friends. The pool is great and comes with a volley ball net, there is also table tennis and darts available which kept everyone entertained.

Karen and Diego, the villa owners are also wedding coordinators. Unlike other firms they don't put any restrictions on what you can do. We got married in Madonna Della Rocca church and had our evening do at the Metropole Hotel. The day was fantastically well organised. They sorted out all the transport to get to and from the church, including taxis for family members not staying at the villa. They also organised flowers, the meal, the legal side, the service, drinks reception at the church amongst other things. It was brilliantly organised with little stress for myself and my husband.

We had a week's holiday at The Lemon Tree with our wedding half way through the week. Karen and Diego's hospitality and helpfulness is hard to explain so I'll give a few examples of what they did for us.

We arrive at about 18.30 on Saturday. There was a group of about 15 of us and we were tired after our flight so they organised pizzas and drinks for us.

The next morning they ordered in breakfast for everyone as most people hadn't thought to bring food even though it is self catering. Later in the week our families came for lunch and they went to a local deli for some food so we could have a special lunch with them. My parents couldn't find the villa so Diego drove into town to meet them and they then followed him to the apartments. They sorted out a day trip for my brother who wasn't even staying at the villa.

They also offer a taxi service at a fraction of the price of a regular taxi. So at any (and I mean any) time of the day or night they will drop of or collect you from wherever you want.

In summary the Villa is fantastic by itself and I would recommend it anyone. But with the addition of Karen and Diego as hosts it makes it an extra special experience. We have already talked about returning in 10 years time to celebrate.” Clare & Rich

“As wedding photographers with over 20 years’ experience, I have worked with wedding planners many times over the years, but Karen and Diego are exceptional. They listen to requests, and plan accordingly, and have the contacts to arrange everything from buttonholes to the very best of banquets.

The Lemon Tree Villa owned and run by Karen and Diego - is private, spacious, modern and well maintained. Nestled in the hillside overlooking the bay and town of Taormina.

They offer, along with their team of chauffers, a very reasonably priced shuttle, for guests, to and from the town any time day and night.

If you are thinking of your wedding in Taormina ,Sicily, I would not hesitate to  recommend Karen and Diego to you, As I entrusted them to arrange my daughters wedding day in June 2012 and it was a truly perfect day. Thank you guys.”

Lionel & Stephanie: April 2013
Civil ceremony at the Auditorium Castelmola followed by evening reception at The Lemon Tree, Taormina.

“They made our wedding and the entire week a wonderful time for the whole family.

When it's time to plan your wedding you're feeling a bit nervous about the right location, the perfect venue for your Big Day, how to deal with the paperwork, fitting the whole family in one place, etc.

We wanted to have a wedding outside of Ireland and decided to go for Sicily but there's so much choice when you start looking on the internet, so many wedding planners and how can you be certain the one you gonna pick is trustworthy?

All the good reviews you can read about Karen and Diego are true. It's been 3 months since we were there and we still have wonderful memories.

From the first email we sent to Karen we knew she would be an amazing coordinator for our wedding. No matter how busy she was she always replied quickly to our emails, offering to ring us to organize everything to suit our needs and budget.

They both speak italian and english fluently, they know many people and places you can trust.

Whatever you want, whatever you need, whatever your budget, they have something for you.

We flew from Dublin to Catania for one side of the family and from Barcelona to Catania for the other side.

We were able to accommodate the 2 families (25 people) in the 8 apartments for a whole week.

If you're unsure do not hesitate to ask Karen to pick you up somewhere (ex. at the train station), they told us many stories about guests getting lost attempting to find their way up to The Lemon Tree. My parents and my friends got lost following the indications on their satnav. The in-laws arranged a pick up at the airport through Karen recommendations (Enrico was really nice, they asked for him all week).

As I said earlier, do not hesitate to ask them whatever you want; quad biking on Mt Etna, having a delicious pizza in Taormina or a little gem of a restaurant just a little bit off the beaten track (I'm thinking of Forza D'Agro), scuba diving, paragliding, it's just a phone call away for Diego and it's booked!

We were made to feel so welcome, we couldn't ask for more, they were amazing, they made our wedding week very special.

We already told them but I'll take this opportunity on Tripadvisor to tell them again:

Karen, Diego, everybody had a fantastic time at The Lemon Tree thanks to you, you are wonderful hosts, what you have done for us was beyond expectations, thank you so much from all of us.”

Rustam & Tatyana: March 2014
Civil wedding held at Palazzo Duchi Santo Stefano followed by evening reception at Hotel El Jebel, Taormina

“We have spent a week in Taormina a couple years back for the New Year’s and we have fallen in love with this beautiful town. So that was an easy choice to make when we were looking for a location for our wedding. We have planned it early in the year – March 1 – and not so many places in Europe offer beautiful warm weather this season. So Taormina was it.

We live in Moscow, which is a pretty long flight to Sicily. So we have planned the entire event online without going to Taormina until a few days before the event. We have got in touch with Karen online and we have appreciated the flexibility that she has offered, unlike many planners that only provide fixed packages.

We have chosen El Jebel hotel for our reception and Rita, the event planner there, has been very closely involved in our planning as well.

Karen has been tremendously helpful with all the paperwork and logistics, which has been not easy with us holding German and Russian passports.

Before we have started planning, we have never thought of how much one needs to bring together to make a perfect wedding! All the legal details, venues, flowers, make up, hair, photographers, music, disco party, pre-party, after-party, second day party… and probably I have still missed something. Karen and Rita have done a tremendous effort to make the planning easy and enjoyable for us. And on the day we could completely relax and enjoy the celebration as we knew that we were very well taken care of.

We had a party of about 30 people for the wedding. We have invited all our friends to a casual dinner the night before the wedding to Pizzeria Vecchia Taormina. Our ceremony was at Palazzo Duca Di Santo Stefano followed by a reception at El Jebel. We were lucky enough with the weather to have champagne at the roof-top terrace (and get some beautiful photos there). We have then moved to La Giara night club for the dance party. On the next day Karen has arranged a beautiful tour to Mount Etna. And then – tired and happy – we had our final dinner with a pasta cooking class at  Osteria Rosso di Vino.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our wedding and we are still quite amazed how smoothly and perfect everything went – all thanks to the help from Karen and Rita. We definitely recommend Taormina and Karen to anyone looking to plan an event to remember.”

Fleur & Mike: May 2014
Civil wedding held at Palazzo Duchi Santo Stefano followed by evening reception at Hotel El Jebel, Taormina

“In June 2013 we enlisted Karen and Diego to help plan our wedding in Taormina. It was one of the best decisions we made as they are a fantastic team and nothing was ever too much trouble!

During this time we stayed at the Lemon Tree Apartments and Karen spent a couple of days showing us around the many beautiful venues around Taormina. Karen really took the time to genuinely understand what was (and was not) important to us and provided us with expert advice. Over the next year she managed all of the suppliers and paperwork seamlessly.

We stayed at the Lemon Tree Apartments again in the week leading up to our wedding in May 2014, with our friends and family. The apartments are a brilliant place to stay as they’ve comfortable, well equipped and have stunning views. If you’re travelling in a group we’d definitely recommend having Karen and Diego prepare you a delicious BBQ on the terrace.

On the actual wedding day, it couldn’t have been better organised and we really did have our dream wedding day. Thank you Karen and Diego, for providing us with the perfect wedding and cementing our love for Taormina – we look forward to returning in the future.”

Betsy & Brian: July 2014
Catholic ceremony held at S. Peter and Paul Cathedral, Forza d’ agro followed by Jewish ceremony and evening reception at Belmond Hotel Villa S’ant Andrea, Taormina.

"Karen was instrumental in pulling together all the local vendors and she worked closely with our venue to help make our destination wedding absolutely spectacular.  Karen organized a pre-wedding welcome dinner that really wowed our out-of-town guests. For our wedding the next day, Karen worked closely with Villa Sant'Andrea to coordinate all aspects of the day. Our wedding was an event all of our guests will remember for a long time, and we can't thank Karen enough for everything she did."

Rebecca & Sean: August 2014
Catholic wedding ceremony at Chiesa Madonna della Rocca followed by evening reception at Villa Antonio

“My husband and I got married on the 6th August 2014 and it was by far the most amazing day of our lives with thanks to Karen and Diego. We first met Karen and Diego in July 2013 and have been dealing with them from Ireland on a regular basis throughout the whole year via emails, texts, phone calls, viber, skype etc. and even then no matter what we needed to know or any questions we had they came back with answers almost immediately.

Karen is so open minded and wants to suit what the new bride and groom want for their special day rather than having a set few places that she only uses (like other planners do)

We first met Karen in July 2013 when we went and viewed numerous churches and venues, after talking to us and getting to know us throughout the year Karen had an idea of where she thought would be the ideal place for our wedding day and she was right. We got married in Madonna Della Rocca which we believe is the most beautiful church in Taormina set right up on top with outstanding views. We chose Villa Antonio for our wedding reception which cannot be faulted. It was spectacular in every way. Our guests were completely blown away by everything.

The day would not have been possible if it wasn’t for Karen’s organisation skills she organises EVERYTHING, Hair, makeup, transport, church, venue, flowers, photographers, music, folk groups anything you can think of she made sure that it was arranged right down to setting up the church and venue, including water available for the guests on arrival at the church. Karen and Diego made my husband and I feel so relaxed and left us feeling that we were all just there on holiday almost forgetting we were getting married. The whole day ran so smoothly from the minute we all woke up (as we were staying in the Lemon Tree, also highly recommended) Karen was there with a helping hand, greeting the Hair dressers and makeup artist organising the guests, who had also requested to get their hair done all while still checking that everything was going ok for the lads too. I felt so relaxed and could literally sit back and relax knowing Karen had everything and everyone under control. We also had a party of est 70 people up in the Lemon Tree the following day which was a huge success, Karen & Diego helped us order a crazy amount of delicious pizzas that were delivered in perfect timing for our guests who had all worked up an appetite playing numerous water volley ball matches.

If I can give any advice it would be to give the wedding DJ a play list of songs you like and want played on the night, everything else is amazing and Karen really has it all well covered.

I just want to take this opportunity to say “Thank you Karen and Diego for everything.”

Ps we will defo. be back to the Lemon Tree it is an amazing place to stay check out our review on trip advisor. “

Rob & Lorraine: September 2014
Catholic ceremony at Chiesa Varo followed by evening reception at The Caparena Hotel, Taormina.

"We simply cannot say enough positive things about our wonderful wedding planners, and friends, Karen and Diego. Friendly, courteous and professional from start to finish we know that we could not have achieved the wedding of our dreams without their help.

From our very first conversation with Karen we both knew we had stumbled upon the perfect person for us. Karen is professional, efficient and extremely well organised. She solves problems before they even have the chance to occur, and calmly guided us through the entire process going above and beyond to ensure we had a completely stress free wedding (which not many people can say!).

They are a fantastic couple and we owe them a massive debt of gratitude for everything they have given us, and we highly recommend Karen and Diego to anyone planning a bespoke wedding in Sicily.

In fact we would say if you are fortunate enough to get them, then you are the lucky ones!!"

Lucy and Will Wilkins: June 2015
Civil ceremony at the Castle ruins, Castelmola followed by wedding reception at Villa Antonio, Taormina

“Lucy and I got married in Castelmola this June (2015). We were blown away with Sicily when we first visited two years ago. The food, people, history and beauty of the island are unparalleled. It was therefore our dream to get married here. We were worried that planning a wedding in Sicily would be quite a challenge but after much research, I stumbled upon Karen and her wedding planning services.

After meeting Karen in Sicily when she spent a weekend showing us the various options for our wedding, we decided on having our wedding ceremony in Castelmola auditorium and reception at Villa Antonio. We loved Castelmola as it is away from hustle and bustle of Taormina and Villa Antonio was absolutely amazing. The views are stunning whilst the food and service are impeccable. We were so pleased with our choices and wouldn't have changed a single thing.

Karen, you were amazing. You made our wedding the best day of our lives and we couldn't have done it without you. In the run up to the wedding, we met with Karen several times to discuss details such as flowers, transport, paperwork etc- nothing was overlooked. We were confident from here that our day would be a success. On the wedding day itself, Karen was absolutely indispensable and looked after every single detail which meant that we could completely relax and enjoy the day. Our guests were also taken aback by Karen's passion and commitment.

To Karen we are indebted. Thank you so much!”
